We are committed to protecting your private information. This Statement of Privacy applies to www.socialsciencesinstitute.org (the “Site”) and The National Institute of Social Sciences (the “NISS”) and governs our data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to The National Institute of Social Sciences include the Site and NISS. The NISS website is a not-for-profit site. By using the NISS website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Collection of your Personal Information

In order to better provide you with products and services offered on our Site, NISS may collect personally identifiable information, such as your:

If you join the NISS as a member or make a donation, we collect billing and credit card information. This information is used to complete the transaction.

We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. However, we may require you to provide certain personal information to us as a condition to the use of certain products or services available on the Site. These may include: (a) registering for membership in the NISS on our Site; (b) donating to the NISS on our Site; (c) sending us an email message; (d) submitting your credit card or other payment information when ordering and purchasing products and services on our Site; or (e) applying for an NISS grant. We will use your information for actions including, but not limited to, communicating with you in relation to services and/or products you have requested from us. We reserve the right to request or require additional personal or non-personal information in the future, which we would obtain only when you voluntarily provide it to us.

Subject to the conditions outlined under “Right to Deletion” below, we will retain your personal information until and unless you request us to delete it.

NISS collects and uses your personal information to operate its website(s) and deliver the services you have requested.

NISS may also use your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from NISS and its affiliates.

NISS does not sell, rent or lease its membership or donor lists to third parties.

NISS may share data with trusted partners to help perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide membership or donor support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to NISS and in relation to NISS activities, products, and services. All such third parties are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

Tracking User Behavior

NISS may keep track of the websites and pages our users visit within the Site, in order to better understand users’ interests and engagement with the material we provide on the Site. This data is used for the development and improvement of Site content and NISS’s products and services, including without limitation the delivery of customized content and advertising within NISS to members or donors whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.

Information about your computer hardware and software may be automatically collected by NISS. This information is used for the operation of the Site, to maintain quality of the Site, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the Site.

The Site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware of this when they leave the Site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

Right to Deletion

Subject to certain exceptions set out below, on receipt of a verifiable request from you, we will:

  • Delete your personal information from our records; and

  • Direct any service providers to delete your personal information from their records.

Please note that we may not be able to comply with requests to delete your personal information if such information is necessary to:

Children Under Thirteen

NISS does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of thirteen years. If you are under the age of thirteen, you must ask your parent or guardian for permission to use this website.

From time to time, NISS may contact you via email for the purpose of providing announcements, invitations to events, offers, alerts, confirmations, surveys, and/or other general communication.

We may store your data on servers provided by third party hosting vendors with whom we have contracted.

NISS reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time.
