In Memoriam: William H. Told, Jr., 1930 – 2023

The Board of Trustees and Officers of the National Institute of Social Sciences are saddened to inform you of the death of former Trustee, Vice President, and later Chairman of the Florida Chapter of the National Institute, William H. Told, Jr. Mr. Told passed away on October 13, 2023 in Vermont.. He was 92 years old.

In addition to his long and distinguished career in financial services, Bill Told and his wife Jane were active philanthropists and longstanding participants in charitable and social endeavors in Palm Beach, Florida, Dorset, Vermont, and New York City.

In Palm Beach, they were Benefactors and Trustees of the Society of the Four Arts, and active supporters of many other local causes and organizations. During their summers in Vermont, Bill and Jane supported the Southern Vermont Art Center; Zion Episcopal Church, St. John's Summer Chapel; Manchester Music Festival; Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home; Dorset Historical Society; and Manchester Community Library. In New York, Bill was active in philanthropic endeavors. He was a Trustee of the American Ballet Theater for nine years; National Treasurer of the English-Speaking Union of the United States (and subsequently a Vice President of the Palm Beach Chapter); President of the Board of the Isabel O'Neil Foundation; member of the Board of the New York Convention and Visitors Bureau; and Children of Bellevue. He served for over 20 years on the Fine Arts Committee, US Department of State in Washington, DC.

Bill was a stalwart Trustee and Officer and a generous supporter of the National Institute for many years, and we will miss him. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife Jane and his surviving family. Rest in peace.
